HOLT Architects’ Corning Community College Project Photo Featured in e-SPECS

As e-SPECS users who have completed the update to version 10 will see, HOLT Architects’ photograph of their work on Corning Community College Library & Learning Commons has been selected as the new e-SPECS software splash page image. The photo was recently selected from multiple e-SPECS user project photo submissions.

“HOLT Architects’ project photo was chosen by InterSpec, Inc. because it shows the quality of work that our clients are producing,” shared Gilles Letourneau, InterSpec, Inc. President and CEO. “There is a sophisticated nature of the specifications for spaces like this one. It is satisfying to be able to help firms like HOLT do this great work.”

The building pictured is only one part of a larger Corning Community College renovation, that HOLT has designed to meet their client’s vision of making the campus, with its new housing, library, student commons, and gym, a community with spaces to “live, learn & play.”

“The vision for the library,” shares Quay Thompson, Principal Architect, “was to create space for individual study as well as collaborative learning that integrates both conceptually and physically into the fabric of the campus. The library is designed as a comfortable, conditioned extension of the main quad.”

Thompson attributes the firm’s success to client relationships and good communication. “We have had the fortune to work with clients that share many of our core values: sustainable and durable construction with a design aesthetic that embodies the essence of the client.” notes Thompson.

The Corning Community College project, like other higher education projects the firm has worked on, is an example of a design driven by client values, as students are often attracted to the appearance of a campus. “Architecture is one way colleges market themselves,” Thompson shares.

All the firm’s projects are driven by client vision, to which HOLT lends its valuable expertise. “We listen very closely to the needs and goals of our clients,” shares Thompson, “A vision is provided by the client – our staff merely translates that vision into the language of architecture.”

BIM and 3-D imagery are essential to informing the design process, allowing HOLT the ability to clearly collaborate with clients. Parallel to the use of Revit, e-SPECS is utilized on 99.9% of the firm’s projects.

Bill Patchen, the specification writer for the Corning project shares, “e-SPECS’ use of master documents enables us to truly develop office masters that contain all the customizations that we deem important. It’s a very functional system.”

Patchen was the only specification writer for HOLT until retiring earlier this year. He will be replaced by Mike Kuo. “With e-SPECS one spec writer can handle all the firm’s projects and support the whole office,” shares Kuo.
